Plasticizers are designed to increase the elasticity of the casting, which ultimately increases its resistance to mechanical stress. One of the plasticizers often used when working with epoxy resins is dibutyl phthalate, DBF. It is also used when working with “cold porcelain”, polyvinyl chlorides and other polymers, and is widely used in the production of dyes and nail polishes. The plastic effect of this compound will not make the product resistant to heavy mechanical loads, but it is perfect, for example, to protect the coating from cracking. DBF does not affect the color of the resin, so it is good to use it for transparent castings and coatings. In addition, it is the cheapest plasticizer available.
